🔗 Merge Columns in Excel
Combines two or more columns into one new column with the separator you choose — without writing a single formula.
What it does
- Click the columns in the order you want them combined — a live preview shows the result
- Separator of your choice: space, comma, dash, nothing or anything you type
- Empty cells are skipped, so you never get double separators
- Dates and numbers appear exactly as they look in Excel (03/04/2026, $1,250.00)
- Keep the original columns or remove them
Example
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| First Name: John | Last Name: Smith | Full Name: John Smith |
| City: Boston | State: MA | ZIP: 02110 | Location: Boston, MA, 02110 |
How it works
Good to know
- Always keep a copy of your original file as a backup and check the cleaned copy before you use it.
- The new column is added at the right end of your table.
- Reads .xlsx, .xls and .csv files and saves the result as a new .xlsx file.
- Only the first worksheet is cleaned. Other worksheets and title rows above your table are kept unchanged.
- Values, dates and number formats are kept. Cell colors and fonts are not carried over to the cleaned copy.
- The tools are provided free of charge and "as is". We have built and tested them with great care, but we cannot guarantee that every entry is recognized or changed correctly. More about this tool
Mail merges, labels and many import templates expect a full name or a complete address in one single column, while your list keeps first name, last name, street and city in separate columns. In Excel that means writing a formula like =A2&" "&B2 and copying it down.
With this tool you simply click the columns in the order you want, choose a separator and give the new column a name. A preview shows the first row before anything happens. Empty cells are skipped, and dates or amounts appear exactly as you see them in Excel.
The result is saved as a cleaned copy of your file. Your original is not changed and nothing is uploaded.
