๐ Find and Remove Duplicates in Excel
Shows you every group of duplicate rows side by side. You decide what gets deleted โ nothing is removed until you confirm.
What it does
- Finds duplicate rows across your whole list
- Compare all columns, or only the ones that matter (for example Name + Email)
- Ignores differences in upper/lower case and extra spaces when comparing
- Shows each group of duplicates side by side with its row number
- The first row of each group is kept by default โ change the ticks as you like, then confirm
Example
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| Row 2: Brightline Dental | info@brightline.com | kept |
| Row 9: BRIGHTLINE DENTAL | info@brightline.com | removed (you confirm) |
| Row 4: Harbor Logistics | ops@harbor.com | kept (not a duplicate) |
How it works
Good to know
- Always keep a copy of your original file as a backup and check the cleaned copy before you use it.
- Tip: run "Clean Whitespace" first if your list was copied from a website โ invisible characters can make identical rows look different.
- Reads .xlsx, .xls and .csv files and saves the result as a new .xlsx file.
- Only the first worksheet is cleaned. Other worksheets and title rows above your table are kept unchanged.
- Values, dates and number formats are kept. Cell colors and fonts are not carried over to the cleaned copy.

More about this tool
Duplicate rows creep into every list that is built from more than one source: the same customer from two exports, a contact entered twice, a copy-paste that went wrong. Excel's built-in "Remove Duplicates" deletes rows straight away without showing you what it removes.
This tool works the other way round. It first shows you every group of rows that match, side by side, with their row numbers. The first row of each group is marked to keep, the others to remove โ and you can change every tick before anything happens.
You also decide what counts as a duplicate. By default every column must match. If you only want to compare Name and Email, for example, just click those two columns.
When you are happy, click "Remove selected rows" and save the cleaned copy. Your original file is not changed, and nothing leaves your computer.
